The Sopron-Fertő area is one of Hungary’s historic wine regions – its winemaking traditions date back to the Ancient Roman times. Numerous wineries offer their amazing products here, they are mostly producing red wines. The region is famous for its exquisite Blaufränkisch – many consider Sopron to be the Hungarian capital of this wine that has a spicy character.
Cool summers and mild, often windy winters create a sub-Alpine climate ideal for making strong and elegant red wines like the Blue Frankish.
The goal of the Sopron Society of Wine Kinghts and Wine Friends is to promote the traditional and historical wine region of Sopron and to disseminate information both nationally and internationally about wine and winemaking in Sopron. The Society also creates a forum for all interested parties and communities.

With more than 60 members, the society has its headquarters in the Baroque Rejpál House (Várkerület 7.). The building is more than 300 years old and is constantly renovated and developed.
It also hosts professional wine conferences, thematic wine tastings, gastronomic presentations and cultural programs. There is also an auditorium, a Knight's Hall and a spectacular wine tavern where you can taste the best wines of the region.
